Roaches

There are several different types of roach species found in Bakersfield and Kern County. They come in different sizes, reproduce at different rates, and live in different environments. It's important to know what conducive conditions contribute to the presence of roaches in order to help in preventing an infestation.

General Information

Roaches can spread salmonella, cause asthma and allergic symptoms, and worst of all they can cause mental anguish.  At Wow Pest Control, our highly trained pest control technicians specialize in roach control. Below are a few types of roaches that are commonly found here in Bakersfield:

German Cockroach:

German cockroaches are found indoors.  They are about 1/2″ in length, brown, and have two longitudinal lines from the back of their head to their wings. They usually are brought home in the form of an egg attached to a grocery bag or item that you carry around with you. They spread more quickly than any of the other roaches found in Bakersfield. Each egg capsule can contain 30-50 eggs. A few roaches can turn into an infestation very quickly. They are usually found in kitchens and bathrooms, but can be found throughout your home in a heavy infestation. They like tight spaces and hide in cracks and crevices. If you notice roach activity indoors, call a Wow Pest Control Professional today for an inspection and quote.  We have extensive experience treating German Cockroach activity and are confident that we can give your home back to you free of infestation.

American Cockroach:

American cockroaches are the largest of the roach species at 1 1/2-2″ long. They’re light brown, have wings, and can fly for short distances. They are usually found outside, but have been found inside in search of food. They prefer warm damp areas such as flower beds with mulch.  It’s important to prevent overwatering to prevent conditions that are conducive to American roach activity.  You also want to avoid clutter surrounding the home and regularly rake up leaves that can easily become a nesting site for these critters.

Oriental Cockroach:

Oriental Cockroaches are 1-1/2″ inches long and are black to reddish brown in color.  They are found in areas similar to the American Roach. They rely on heavily moist areas for survival. They are usually found in flower beds with mulch, under rocks, or in the cracks in the foundations. They prefer feeding on garbage. They can wander into your home under a door that is missing a door sweep or weather stripping. To avoid Oriental roaches, it’s important to avoid overwatering, declutter around your home, and regularly rake up leaves that can easily become a nesting site for them.
